People, mostly whites, in the West (Europe and America) are asked to answer for the consequences from actions of past colonial and imperialistic states. Some claim that they are due reparations for these past acts. If forgiveness is a personal reflection and restoration to good state, then what should we ask forgiveness for? Immigration and migration are difficult topics with many choices. Some could argue that there was an increase of human thriving through contact with the West. True justice requires that we focus on the present and the care for our fellows today. Waters expresses the need for the West to, “from God and itself, and in that order”.
